PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting an elevator load is provided to precisely detect an amount of elastic strain largely generated in the center of a cross head when a load is generated in a car frame of the elevator by mounting a load detecting element on a top surface of the cross head of the car frame. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting an elevator load hanging a car frame(22) on ropes(21) includes a load detecting element(26) mounted in the center of a top surface of a cross head of the car frame for detecting an amount of elastic deformation strain, wherein the load detecting element includes a module base(31) mounted on the top surface of the cross head, a plurality of strain gauges(32) mounted on a top surface of the module base for detecting an amount of strain of the module base due to the elastic strain of the cross head, and amps(33) mounted around the strain gauges and attached with parts for applying a voltage to the strain gauges or amplifying outputs.
