A vacuum fitting (10) for connection to a remote source of vacuum, the vacuum fitting (10) comprising a main body (12) mountable to a fixed structure. The main body (12) includes an inlet opening (40) and an outlet opening (140); an openable closure (14) mounted to the main body (12) and being movable between an open position and position covering the inlet opening (40); a latch member (16) selectively positionable to keep the closure (14) in said covering position when positioned between the main body (12) and the closure (14) and to permit said closure (14) to move to an open position when not positioned between said main body (12) and the closure (14); and a biaser (100) to urge the closure (14) to an open position. A switch (106, 100, 118) is also provided to initiate the remote source of vacuum when the closure (14) is moved to the open position by the biaser (100).
