PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new regeneration method of an exhausted zeolite type catalyst. SOLUTION: A regeneration method of an at least partially exhausted zeolite type alkylation or transalkylation catalyst includes the heat treatment of the exhausted catalyst with an aromatic hydrocarbon. Especially, this method is useful for regenerating the exhausted zeolite type catalyst generated from a method for producing a monoalkyl aromatic compd. by alkylating an aromatic hydrocarbon substrate by an alkylation agent selected from a 2-4C olefin, isopropanol and a mixture of isopropanol and propylene or by transalkylating the aromatic hydrocarbon substrate by one or more kind of polyalkyl aromatic hydrocarbon (the alkylation or transalkylation process is performed at least partially in a liquid phase in the presence of a zeolite type catalyst).
