PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound presenting enough emission especially as a guest material and useful as an organic luminescent material used for green to red colors. SOLUTION: This new compound is a compound of formula I or II (X1 and X2 are each H, OH or an alkoxyl; R1 to R8 are each a lower alkyl; and R9 and R10 are each an electron-attractive group), e.g. a compound of formula III. The compound of formula I or II is obtained by subjecting (A) a compound of formula IV (X3 is H, OH or the like; and R11 to R14 are each a lower alkyl) (e.g. 8-methoxy-1,1,7,7-tetramethyljulolidine-9-carbaldehyde) and (B) a compound of formula V (R15 and R16 are each a hydrocarbon; R17 and R18 are each an electron-attractive group) or the like, to a Wittig-Horner reaction or the like, in a solvent such as tetrahydrofuran in the presence of a base such as sodium hydride.
