PRODUCTION OF GLASS PREFORM FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a glass preform for an optical fiber which has a uniform outside diameter and is free of cracks and air bubbles. SOLUTION: The process for producing the glass preform for the optical fiber is explained by referencing the Figure corresponding to an embodiment as follows: Dummy rods 1 and 3 are respectively connected to both ends of a rotating rod-like rod 2 and at least one of the dummy rods has a juncture 6 larger than the diameter of the rod 2. Glass particulates blown from a burner 8 repeating the forward and backward movement parallel to the rod 2 are deposited on the flank of the rod 2 and the flank of the dummy rod 3 across the juncture 6 and are then sintered.
