PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device having a long service life, high in use efficiency of light, preventing oxidation of welded part of molybdenum foil to an external connection lead positioned on a sealed end part of a short-arc discharge lamp and will not shade light, when this light source device is used in combination with a concave reflector having a focus. SOLUTION: This light source device is made up of a short-arc discharge lamp 2 with its tube axis disposed on the center axis of a concave reflector 1. The short-arc discharge lamp 2 comprises a luminous tube having a pair of electrodes sealed at, its both ends, filled with at least mercury and rare gas, and having sealed parts on its both ends. A portion of the short-arc discharge lamp 2, near the sealed end part on the open diameter side of the concave reflector 1, is adapted to be gradually tapered of toward a secondary focus of the concave reflector 1. |
