PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program recorder and a program recording medium in which a picture quality of a recorded program can be selected by easier operation in accordance with a user's taste. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with a program receiving means 101 for receiving a broadcast program, a program kind acquisition/decision means 103 for acquiring or deciding a kind of a program received by the program receiving means 101, a recording mode decision/control means 107 for deciding recording mode of the received program from the decided program kind based on a corresponding table 108 which indicates a correlation between the kind of the program and the recording mode in accordance with the kind, and a recorder 102 for recording the program received by the program receiving means 101 based on the decided recording mode.
