PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining molten metal capable of stable operation of heating and refining the molten metal. SOLUTION: The refining method refers to a method for refining molten metal by heating the molten metal with a plasma torch or heating the molten metal on which slug is disposed with the plasma torch from an upside. In this case, the refining method is a method for refining the molten metal wherein at least one part of the plasma torch is formed by graphite, and a plasma arc generating part of the plasma torch is preferably formed by the graphite. Further, the plasma torch is formed by the graphite and forming the whole of the plasma torch by the graphite allows effect to exhibit sufficiently. In addition to the above, inert gas is blown into the molten metal.
