PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the structure of a discharge maintaining electrode, and to provide a plasma display panel improved in the energy resetting efficiency, while applying the discharge maintaining pulse appropriate the structure of the discharge maintaining electrode, and to provide a driving method thereof. SOLUTION: In a plasma display panel improved in the energy resetting efficiency, structure of electrodes is changed to the three-electrodes surface discharge structure so that an external driving circuit of a scanning electrode 12b and a common electrode 12a and a connecting terminal part are formed in the only one side non-emission region 20b of non-emission parts provided in both edge parts of a front glass substrate 11, and area of the residual non- emission region is markedly reduced. Impedance increased by reduction of the area of the residual non-emission region is applied to the scanning electrodes while dividing the maintaining alternating pulse having positive and negative polarity into an even-numbered electrode and an odd-numbered electrode adjacent to each other.
