PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a ship for collecting floating materials which can collect as much floating materials as possible in one ship, and can easily install the apparatus for collecting floating materials. SOLUTION: In the apparatus and the ship for collecting floating materials, one end of an expanding arm 2 is turnable in a direction parallel to a side of a hull at least during the non-service mode, and in a direction orthogonal thereto in a service mode, the expanding arm 2 is foldable or the other end of the expanding arm 2 is expandable so that the whole length of the expanding arm 2 is increased, and a float 3 to support the expanding arm 2 is preferably mounted on a tip of the expanding arm 2.
