PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten an inter-sheet distance of carrying sheets while carrying a passable sheet and a nonpassible sheet by constituting so as to switch a sheet detecting sensor for detecting the passing of the sheet rear end according to a kind of sheet. SOLUTION: A sheet detecting sensor 114 is composed of a transmissive light sensor to judge that a sheet can pass when output of the sheet detecting sensor 114 is an ON state and that the sheet cannot pass in an OFF state when the sheet carried from a separating roller 113 passes. Since the sheet detecting sensor 114 cannot be used as a sheet detecting sensor when the sheet can pass, a lever sensor 115 being a contact type detecting sensor for knowing the passing of the sheet by detecting the positional change when rotating the sheet by abutting to a lever, is arranged on the downstream side of the sheet detecting sensor 114. When using the lever sensor 115, an apparent sheet passing distance is extended by a difference distance B of a position shown by a continuous line and a broken line. When carrying a nonpassible sheet, small inter-paper distance control is performed.
