PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and stably provide a high-quality joint in which a deviation in a width direction at welding is eliminated by detecting a tip part of a metallic plate with an image sensor, arithmetically processing a centerline deviation between a preceding and a following metallic plates, and moving a clamping device clamping the metallic plate. SOLUTION: A following metallic plate 1 is clamped by a discharge-side clamp 6 and a preceding metallic plate 2 is clamped by an inlet-side clamp 5 when the tail end of the preceding metallic plate 2 and the top end of the following metallic plate 1 enter into a shearing device 103. An image sensor (a CCD camera) scans the Y-directions of the following metallic plate 1 and of the preceding metallic plate 2 and detects a deviation of the central positions in the width direction of both metallic plates. After the deviation is detected, a positioning is carried out to make the central positions in the width direction coincide by moving the outlet-side clamp 6, the following metallic plate 1 and the preceding metallic plate 2 are cut by the shearing device 103, and the tail end of the preceding metallic plate 2 and the top end of the following metallic plate 1 are overlapped. The following metallic plate 1 and the preceding metallic plate 2 are welded while a carriage 4 is being moved.
