PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent development of creak in a paper sheet and to positively determine the transporting position of the paper sheet. SOLUTION: A sensor 13 for the extremity of a paper sheet is placed at a given position between an image forming part 1 and a transporting roller 10. The paper sheet 6 in a paper feeding mode is passed between a spaced transporting roller 10 and a pinch roller 11. A paper feeding roller 18 is halted when the sensor 13 for the extremity of the paper sheet detects the extremity of the paper sheet 6. This allows paper feeding without slacking the paper sheet 6 to prevent development of creak in the paper sheet 6 and to positively determine the resist position of the paper sheet 6 regardless of the presence or absence of the slippage of the paper sheet 6 and the presence or absence of double deeding. In addition, paper feeding is allowed toward an image forming part 1 without delaying timing with the paper sheet 6 positively sandwiching between the transporting roller 10 and the pinch roller 11. Thus, the transporting position of the paper sheet 6 is positively determined.
