PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To define recognition information for recognizing the addition of invalid header data so as to be completely matched with management information and the packet of a transmission stream by adding the recognition information to the header information of a recording unit. SOLUTION: The identification information of one bit showing the validity of application header extension information is recorded while being contained in each of application header extension information. Then, information corresponding to the number of application packets recorded in a unit sector is recorded in an application packet field by the identification information. This identification information and application packet number information according to the information are determined and recorded. Thus, the invalid header data distinguished from the application header extension information is inserted and recorded before the application packet and the number of application packets to be actually recorded in one unit sector is matched with the application header extension information on management information generated and recorded thereby.
