PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platen cover device which can be made small in size and light in weight while preventing the lift of a document. SOLUTION: This platen cover device bringing the document into contact with a platen glass surface is provided with a device main body provided with a platen glass 1 on which the document S is placed, a platen cover 4 which can be displaced to a closing position where it presses the document placed on the platen glass surface and an opening position where pressing the document is released, and a press-contact sheet member 2 for making the document S press-contact with the platen glass surface. The sheet member 2 is constituted of a resin sheet whose thickness is 0.5 to 2 mm, whose flatness is <=1 mm all over the area, whose flexible rigidity is >=200 kgf.mm2 and which has flexibility following the platen glass 1, and elastic members 3 are arranged at plural spots between the member 2 and the platen cover 4.
