PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove surely an adhered foreign matter on a main shaft end face. SOLUTION: A flange 2 is gripped by a gripping tool of an automatic tool changer for transferring a main shaft end face cleaning tool to be mounted on a mounting hole 4a of a main shaft 4. After it is mounted, when a cleaning solvent is fed into a coolant flowing hole 4d by way of a flange-through, the cleaning solvent flows in order of a moving pipe 4b, a coolant flow outlet 4c, an inlet 2c and a communication hole 2b for being discharged from a coolant outlet 2d to a gap C between a main shaft end face 4f and a flange face 2f to wash out foreign matter such as chips and dust adhered on the main shaft end face 4f. As the cleaning solvent has higher viscosity than air and is excellent in detergency, even if the foreign matter is strongly adhered to the main shaft end face 4f in a wet condition by oil, it is surely removed.
