EPOXIDIZING CATALYST AND PRODUCTION OF EPOXIDE OF OLEFIN USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of using water or a low toxic and environmentally friendly org. solvent as a reaction solvent, capable of recovering a catalyst used in reaction to reutilize the same and capable of selectively producing only epoxide. SOLUTION: An epoxidizing catalyst is constituted by supporting a heteropolyacid having a group V atom and a tungsten atom in its molecule on a surface-treated carrier obtained by reacting a surface treatment agent with activated carbon or an inorg. solid having a functional group capable of reacting with the surface treatment agent. Olefins and hydrogen peroxide are reacted in water or an org. solvent in the presence of the epoxidizing catalyst to produce epoxide of olefins.
