PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine capable of removing stains attached to the collar or cuffs of a shirt, etc., which cannot be easily removed by an existing washing machine, without troublesome pre-treatment such as hand- washing. SOLUTION: An ion removing means consisting of a room filled with sodium- type strong acid cation exchange resin and a cylindrical container with a salt slot for storing salt is mounted on the way of a water passage for feeding water into the washing tub of this washing machine. The washing machine also has a variable speed means consisting of a voltage control type PWM inverter for varying the rotation speed of an agitator inside the washing tub and a DC brushless motor 7. The chemical power of a detergent will be improved by the softening of the washing water by the ion removing means, and the rotation speed of the agitator will be increased by the voltage control type PWM inverter and the DC brushless motor 7, so that the high washing performance can be obtained and the energy saving can be achieved at the same time with their multiple effects.
