PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an animal catching trap capable of surely catching a target animal without a malfunction when the leg of the target animal to be caught steps on a footboard which is set on an animal trail in a hidden state. SOLUTION: This animal catching trap is equipped with a cylindrical main body 10 which is covered with an operation cap 11 at the top and vertically buried in the ground, a footboard 12, a catching wire 13 to form a reducible loop 14 on the footboard 12, a coil spring 15 for reducing the loop 14 of the catching wire and an engaging-disengaging apparatus 16 which is linked to a step down of the footboard 12 and disengages the engagement of the operation cap. The engaging-disengaging apparatus is constituted of a projecting piece 21, an upward facing rocking arm 22 pivotally laid on the bottom of the cylindrical main body, a hinge 23 and an engaging piece 24 which is integrally attached to the top of the rocking arm and a hinge piece 23b of the hinge and detachably and slidably brought into contact with the projected piece 21 of the operation cap from above. A downward facing short projecting part 40 is arranged on the bottom of the other end part of the footboard and a compressible layer 41 having thickness equal to the downward facing length of the projecting part is installed on the bottom of the footboard except the projecting part.
