PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the manufacturing method of a tank for a heat exchanger and the tank itself, easy in assembling and capable of being brazed by retaining the assembled condition without employing any jig whereby excellent in productivity. SOLUTION: A first member 5 is formed by bending a metallic sheet so as to obtain the shape of grooves, and a side wall retaining rim 4 is formed at the tip end rim of the side wall unit 1 of the first member 5 by turning the side wall retaining rim 4 inward. At the same time, groove bottom retaining rims 3 are formed at both lengthwise end rims of the side wall unit 1 by turning the rims 3 inward. A closing end unit 7 is formed by bending both lengthwise ends of a second member 8, mated with the opening of the first member 5. The tip end rim of the closing end unit 7 and both side rims of the second member 8 are retained by the groove bottom retaining rims 3 and the side wall retaining rims 4 to fix the whole of them through brazing in a furnace of a high temperature.
