PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of sub-fields without increasing an addressing period by dividing a discharge cell into plural sections and thereby to implement display with high luminance and high gradation. SOLUTION: Pixels are arranged in a matrix between a pair of substrates of this plasma display panel, the pixels are partitioned by barrier ribs 29 formed on either one of the pair of substrates, each of the pixels is divided into plural sub-pixels, the region of each of the divided sub-pixels is further divided into plural sections by barrier ribs 2 formed on either one of the pair of substrates, and electrodes for generating discharge in the regions of the divided sub-pixels.
