An integrated latch (104) for a battery cover (102) of a cellular telephone (100) that combines the high yield and fatigue characteristics of metal with the desired appearance and feel aesthetics of plastic. The latch (104) includes a metal spring (400) that is overmolded with plastic to increase the strength and durability of the latch.
