PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a multilayer coating and capable of providing a multilayer coating with high interlayer adhesion strength, excellent appearance, weathering resistance, chipping resistance, etc., even in the case where the multilayer coating is formed by using a powder coating material for an intermediate coating or undercoating material. SOLUTION: A powder coating material [I] consisting of a polyester resin [A-1] with 20-200 (mg KOH/g) of hydroxyl value and 35 deg.C or higher glass transition temperature, a polyester resin [A-2] with 20-200 (mg KOH/g) of acid value and 35 deg.C or higher glass transition temperature, and a curing agent [B] reactive on hydroxyl group and having 10-100 total acid value is applied to a coating object and heated to be cured and then either a coloring base coat coating material [II] and a transparent top coat coating material [III] are applied thereto or a top coat coating material [IV] is applied thereto and successively subjected to baking and drying treatment to form this multilayer coating.
