PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling sound output is provided which automatically controls the volume of a sound signal to be heard using the optimal volume condition memorized without regard to output environments. CONSTITUTION: A sound output controlling apparatus includes a sensor for calculating the input level of a received sound signal, a memory(3) for storing output volume reference level information by frequency channels, and a microcomputer(4) for comparing the level of the received sound signal detected by the sensor with the reference level stored in the memory to generate a signal for control. The apparatus also has a voltage generator(5) for generating a corresponding voltage according to the control signal of the microcomputer, a differential amplifier(6) operating on the basis of the level of the voltage provided by the voltage generator, and a variable resistor(7) for controlling the level of the sound signal that is amplified through a speaker according to the output value of the differential amplifier.
