Markings on the road surface and/or a set of lights (say, by the side of the street) are used to indicate to the driver of an automobile that he (or she) is or is not within a safe maximum distance from the intersection that would allow the vehicle to continue to be driven, at the maximum legal speed limit, through the intersection within th e duration of the amber light. |
