The wire feed (1) for a machine tool (5) has a bobbin (2) or support frame to carry the wire (4) for delivery. A motor drive rotates the bobbin (2) to deliver the wire (4). The wire feed (1) has a guide system (12), as a wire tensioning and guide lever, to guide the wire (4) between the bobbin (2) and the machine tool (5). The guide system has at least two support zones (12a-12c) to deflect the wire (4) unwound from the bobbin (2) and guide it to the machine tool (5). The support zones (12a-12c) have adapters such as sleeves or sliding pulleys to set the working height of the deflection system (12) in relation to the height of wound wire coils on the bobbin (2). A control system operates the drive motor, to rotate and stop the bobbin (2) according to the wire (4) tension between the bobbin (2) and the machine tool (5). The control has a wire tension monitor, which releases the motor drive when the wire tension is below a max. value and above a min. level. The yarn tension monitor is a wire guide lever, in a swing mounting on the frame (8). The angle of the guide lever is registered by sensors, linked to actuators such as cams which signal the control unit to operate the bobbin drive motor or stop it according to the wire tension which moves the guide lever. The control holds the max. and min. wire tension values. The motor drive has a variator and a control box to set the motor speed and/or the acceleration and/or the deceleration of the motor.
