PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent composition which is excellent in removing fine particles attached to a solid surface of a precision part by compounding a phosphate, a nonionic or anionic surfactant, and water in a specified ratio. SOLUTION: This composition comprises 0.5-15 wt.% phosphate, 0.1-20 wt.% nonionic or anionic surfactant, and the rest being water. A dihydrogen phosphate, a hydrogenphosphoric acid disalt, a phosphoric acid trisalt, a pyrophosphate, a tripolyphosphate, a tetrapolyphosphate, a hexametaphosphate, octametaphosphate, etc., (of sodium or potassium) are listed as the phosphate; among them, one having a neutral to alkaline pH exhibits especially excellent effects. The composition is especially effective when the dirty substance attached is solid grindstone particles, such as particles of diamond, boron nitride, silicon carbide, alumina, zirconium oxide, cerium oxide, chromium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate, barium carbonate, colloidal silica, or titanium oxide.
