PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a pyrrolidine compound useful as an intermediate or raw material for medicines or agrochemicals under the control of a side reaction by adding water to the reaction system on the reaction of a 1,4- alkanediol with ammonia or an alkylamine. SOLUTION: This method for producing a pyrrolidine compound comprises reacting (A) a 1,4-alkanediol (for example, 1,4-butanediol) with (B) ammonia or an alkylamine (for example, methylamine) in the presence of a catalyst (for example, alumina). Therein, water is added to the reaction system. The molar ratio of the component B/the component A is preferably 1 to 50, and the molar ratio of the water/the component A is preferably 0.3 to 25. The reaction is preferably a gas phase distribution system reaction using a solid acidic catalyst at a temperature of 200 to 500 deg.C at a pressure of 0.5 to 50 kg/cm2G. When water contained in the pyrrolidine compound is distilled off, tetrahydrofuran is preferably added to obtain the highly pure product. |
