A process for purifying a fluid stream contaminated with carbon dioxide is provided which comprises contacting, under conditions sufficient to substantially remove the contaminated carbon dioxide from the fluid stream which contains at least one C2-C5 olefin such as ethylene or propylene, with A mixture containing an oxygen-containing metal compound such as, for example, an alkali metal hydroxide, and an inorganic oxide compound such as, for example, silica or alumina.
