Shock absorber has two moving parts (2,3) that move relative to each other. An absolute digital sensor (4) has a meter (5) fixed on one part (3) of the shock absorber with a position coder using Gray binary code and a read head (7) fixed on the other moving part (2), the output of which is a signal representative of shock absorber displacement.
