The engine has a fuel injection device with an angled fuel injection jet (2) which faces a dished recess (23) provided in the end face (11) of the reciprocating piston (12), for providing a tumble movement of the injected fuel mist. The cross-section of the dished recess has a profile which is U-shaped and which widens outwards in the direction of the fuel injection spray (10).
