The method involves storing sub-images preceding the current sub-image of a sequence and forming a first complementary sub-image by comparing image point signals in the current and stored sub-images. A second complementary sub-image is formed by forming a mean value of two pixel signals of the pixel vertically adjacent to a pixel in the current image. A pixel of the first or second complementary sub-images is selected depending on spatial and temporal modification of the pixel signals and vertically adjacent pixels. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for doubling the image repetition rate of an image sequence generated with the line jump technique.
