The secondary battery has a rolled body made from anode and cathode plates and a pair of intermediate separator plates. The anode plate (10) has applied active anode materials (12) separated by slots and the cathode plate is coated with active cathode material. A container for the rolled body has anode and cathode connections electrically connected to the anode and cathode plates and an inorganic non-aqueous electrolyte which is impregnated into the active anode materials via the slots.
