<p>A system wherein a fax to e-mail incoming mail server (141) is receptive of incoming messages from an internet fax service (130). A fax to e-mail system server (140), connected to the fax to e-mail incoming mail server (141) is programmed to: convert each incoming fax to e-mail message and any appended documents to a format appropriate for facsimile machines, overlay the text of the incoming converted fax to e-mail message on an image file, process the incoming fax to e-mail to derive a telephone number for the recipient facsimile machine from the address of the incoming fax to e-mail message, and address the image file to the telephone number derived by the system server (140) for the recipient facsimile machine. An outgoing fax to e-mail server (142) receptive of the addressed image files generated by the fax to e-mail system server (140) transmits the formatted message to the facsimile machine telephone number via a communications network.</p> |
