PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video reproduction device that can optically set a video signal automatically in response to a bit rate and to provide a video signal setting method dealing with the bit rate. SOLUTION: A television receiver 10 includes video circuits 11, 12, 13, 14 that display a video image on a display section 16 on the basis of a received video signal and a control section 16 that controls the video circuits. The control section 15 controls the video circuits 12, 13 at a bit rate based at that time on bit rate information of an optical disk outputted from an optical disk unit to reproduce the optical disk adopting a variable transfer rate system.
