PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of performing gradation display satisfactorily without generating contrast reduction, display flicker, cross talk or the like in the driving method of a liquid crystal element or the like and a display device, especially in the display device performing the gradation display. SOLUTION: In this driving method, a liquid crystal element or the like which is to be constituted by interposing a liquid crystal layer between a substrate having scanning electrodes X1, X2... and a substrate having signal electrodes Y1, Y2... is multiplexingly driven. In this case, plural lines of scanning electrodes are simultaneously selected successively and also the selection period is, for example, divided into three periods and a display device performs gradation display by deciding voltage levels of two divisions among divided selections according to upper bits of display data and by deciding the voltage level as to the remaining division according to lower bits of the display data. |
