PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve startability by starting cranking while current carrying to a glow plug continues, detecting an ignited state within the specified lapse of time after the start of cranking, and in the case of detecting an unignited state, interrupting cranking in a specified cycle until detecting ignition. SOLUTION: In the case of the start-up of a diesel engine being started, whether cranking is in progress is judged, and whether the start-up is cold start-up is judged. In the affirmative case, whether engine speed is lower than the specified value is judged, and whether specified time has elapsed is judged. In the case of engine speed not reaching the specified value or more for specified time after the start of cranking, it is judged unignited, and cranking is interrupted for set time. Hereinafter, in the case of detecting the unignited state, cranking is interrupted in a specified cycle in the continued state of current carrying to a glow plug 11 until detecting ignition to start the engine.
