A synchronization method and arrangement for recovery, at the receiver side of an information transmission equipment, of bit timing information during the transmission of a binary signal which at the transmitter side of the equipment is converted into a multilevel signal with correlative properties. From such multilevel signal, a binary signal conforming with the original binary signal is reconstructed at the receiver side. Bit timing information for sampling purposes at the receiver side is obtained by detection of the times at which the multilevel signal reaches and/or leaves at least one specific level.
