PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission type display device enhancing the intensity of an FED(Field Emission Display) and providing a high reliability. SOLUTION: Plus charge charged by electron emitted from an emitter array 24 on the surfaces of an anode substrate and a cathode substrate is eliminated by forming a gate flow electrode 25 around a gate electrode 22 on an image display part, and applying a gate pulse to the gate electrode 22 during a non- image display period, and simultaneously the gate flow electrode is made to have a positive potential by impressing a gate flow voltage to the gate flow electrode 25. Minus charge from electron emitted from the emitter array 24 charged up in the neighborhood of an emitter is emitted through the gate flow electrode 25.
