PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a spectroscopic image input system in which the spectral data of an object can be obtained accurately in a short time through a simple arrangement. SOLUTION: The spectroscopic image input system comprises a unit 1 for acquiring the image data of an object through a two-dimensional image pickup element, a unit 2 for acquiring the spectral data of the object with higher wavelength resolution than the image data pickup unit 1 over a range narrower than that of the image data pickup unit 1, and a section for determining the part of the object from which a spectral data must be acquired based on an acquired image data wherein the system performs the sequence from acquisition of the image data to acquisition of the spectral data automatically.
