PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a high efficiency terminal station unit, e.g. to transmit a high speed MODEM signal at a high-speed even for a period when the voice/ MODEM signal identification device identifies whether or not a signal is the high speed MODEM signal. SOLUTION: A voice/MODEM signal identification section 6 identifies whether an input signal 12 is a voice signal or a MODEM signal, and a high-speed voice/MODEM signal identification section 8 identifies whether or not the input signal 12 is the high-speed MODEM signal. Then an identification result discrimination section 10 provides an output of a discrimination signal denoting that the input signal 12 is a voice signal or a low speed MODEM signal or a high- speed MODEM signal on the basis of the identification results by the voice/ MODEM signal identification section 6 and the high-speed voice/MODEM signal identification section 8. In this case, the identification result discrimination section 10 outputs a discrimination signal representing that the input signal 12 is the high-speed MODEM signal for a period while the high speed MODEM signal identification section 8 is identifying the input signal 12.
