An isolated polynucleotides which encode lactoferrin-binding protein B from Neisseria Meningitidis (NM) are new. - An isolated polynucleotide (PN) encodes Neisseria meningitidis (NM) lactoferrin-binding protein B (LbpB). Independent claims are also included for: (1) an isolated PN comprising a nucleotide sequence (NS) that is at least 65% identical to that of sequence (I) of 2277 nucleotides in length, from nucleotides 100 to 2274; (2) an isolated PN comprising a NS that is at least 65% identical to that of sequence (II)-(IV), or (V) of 2169, 2226, 2262, or 2124 nucleotides in length respectively; (3) a PN as in (1) or (2) comprising a recombinant expression system which is capable of producing a LbpB polypeptide in a compatible host cell; (4) a host cell comprising an expression system as in (3); (5) LbpB polypeptide from NM; (6) an isolated LbpB polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence which is at least 65% identical to an amino acid sequence (VI)-(IX) or (X) of 725, 722, 741, 753 or 707 amino acids in length respectively, over the entire length; (7) an antibody immunospecific for an LbpB polypeptide as in (6); and (8) a kit for diagnosing infection with neisserial bacteria in a human comprising a PN as in (1) or (2) or a polypeptide as in (6) or an antibody as in (7) (all sequences are given in the specification). |
