PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bisphenol A at a low cost while preventing the catalyst used from deterioration. SOLUTION: This method for producing bisphenol A comprises reaction between acetone and phenol in the presence of an organic polymeric siloxane having both sulfonic acid group-contg. hydrocarbon group and mercapto group- contg. hydrocarbon group; wherein the phenol to be used is such as to be contacted with a sulfonic acid-type cation exchange resin with a mercapto group-contg. compound bound to part of the sulfonic acids, and optionally, subjected to distillation treatment.
