The mobile telephone has a speech signal input stage (26), a speech signal output stage (27) and a charging socket (9) which can be connected to a battery installed in the telephone. The charging socket includes at least one speech signal contact (9b, 9c) for connecting to an input of the speech signal input stage and/or to an output of the speech signal output stage. The charging socket may connect to a microphone-headphone combination (headset) (1) via a standard plug of a modified four-pole standard plug (7).
