CRYSTALLINE SALTS OF DODECYL 2-(N,N-DIMETHYLAMINO)-PROPIONATE

Dodecyl 2-(N,N- dimethylamino)-propionate (DDAIP) is prepared by transesterification of ethyl 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)-propionate. Crystalline acid addition salts of DDAIP are prepared by cooled mixing of DDAIP with one of a select group of acids in the presence of a water-immiscible solvent suc h as hexane. The resulting DDAIP salts are crystalline, and exhibit a pattern of defined detection peaks upon analysis by powder x-ray diffraction.
