PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor of superior surface lubricity as well as in electrical characteristics. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor has a photosensitive layer, formed on an electrically conductive substrate and a binder resin in the photosensitive layer is a polyarylate resin, containing a constituent unit of formula I (where X is alkylene which may have a substituent, cycloalkylene which may have a substituent, phenylalkylene which may have a substituent, fluorenediyl which may have a substituent, ether, carbonyl, thioether, sulfinyl, sulfonyl or a single bond; Y is phenylene which may have a substituent, biphenylene which may have a substituent or naphthylene which may have a substituent; and two benzene rings may have a substituent) and having 100 wt or smaller in ppm content of a nitrogen compound.
