To condense a drawn sliver, for a spinner, the drawn sliver has the same direction of movement as the sliver transport system on arrival at the start of the condensing zone. During the condensing action, a significant number of the sliver fibers remain clamped by the end rollers of the drawing unit. The gap (a) between the defined clamping points (11,18), by the end drawing rollers (2) on one side and the clamping roller (19) on the other side, is longer than the mean staple length of the fibers in the sliver (12). The gap (a) between the clamping points (11,18) has a pref. length of 20-27 mm. The suction slit (17) has a shaft-type opening (24) aligned at the transport belt (16), formed by a replaceable inserted window (25). The final pair (2) of drawing rollers has a lower roller (4) with a peripheral profiled structure (26), which applies a light pressure to the transport belt (16) outside the condensing zone (13). The sliding surface for the transport belt (16) has a hollow profile where the belt passes around it, fitted with longitudinal ribs which rub against the belt (16). The condensing zone (13) is covered by a non-contact shrouding.
