PURPOSE: A torque converter for an automatic transmission is provided to prevent a gear and a housing from being applied by an excessive pressure by smoothing the flow of fluid through a torque converter. CONSTITUTION: A torque converter control unit feeds power to a coil ring(62) and a magnet ring(61) moves to one side. A rotary cam of a cam valve(71) rotates to shut a fluid passage of a housing completely or partially. An output torque of an engine is transferred to an automatic transmission. A fluid passing space is filled with a fluid through a first hole in the center of the housing. A fluid passing groove is opened and a cam inclined surface rotates to drain the fluid slowly. Thus, sudden change in fluid pressure is prevented.
