PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine capable of preventing the needle and the bobbin thread cutting means from interfering with each other when a user manually rotates the upper shaft, etc., without regard to the timing when the power is off. SOLUTION: In this sewing machine, whether the power is off or not is judged (S3) from time to time while the ordinary sewing process is executed (S1). If the power is off, a presser foot lowering signal is outputted (S5). Accordingly, the presser foot is disposed at the cloth pressing position where a cloth to be sewn is pressed, and a bobbin thread cutting means is disposed in the same condition as in the sewing process. The electricity stored in the capacitor of a smoothing circuit of the power source is used for driving the above process. As a result, the bobbin thread cutting means can be retracted from just below the eye of the needle so that the interference with the needle can be prevented.
