PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a divided bit line is provided which can remove the burden of design area according to the increase of bit line sense amps and at the same time enables the bit line pre-charge operation of high speed by improving Cb:Cs ratio. CONSTITUTION: In a semiconductor memory device comprising a bit line sense amp(10) of a folded bit line structure, an apparatus for a divided bit line comprises: a bit line dividing part(20,21) which connects a first bit line group adjacent to the bit line sense amp(10) directly by dividing each bit line pair connected in parallel each other, and connects a second bit line group distant from the bit line sense amp(10) in parallel with the first bit line group by connecting a metal interconnection line; and a switching part(30,31) which is connected to each of the first bit line group and a location on the metal interconnection line, and connects the first and the second bit line group to the bit line sense amp(10) selectively, being switched selectively according to a bit line separation control signal. The apparatus prevents the mis-operation in sensing, and accelerates the bit line pre-charge operation by comprising an additional pre-charge unit(40-43) at every one side end part of each of the divided bit line.
